Interior, Laszlo's studio. The room is large and filled
with great works of art. Laszlo is painting when the door knocks. He covers the canvas
and opens the door.
Laszlo |
Coming... Why Blanche, hello. Come in, come in. Oh, you brought your friends to
see my studio. Well, what a pleasant surprise.
Enter Blanche, Rose and Dorothy.
Blanche |
Laszlo, we all know.
Rose |
We figured it all out this afternoon.
Laszlo |
So, I am caught at last. Well, what can I say?
Dorothy throws herself at Laszlo and suggests...
Dorothy |
Blanche and Rose get out, Dorothy its you I want.
Everyone is appalled, including Laszlo.
Dorothy |
Oh, I'm sorry I'm sorry. I've never seen him in overalls before.
Rose |
Laszlo, we came over for you to decide once and for all which
one of us you want for your statue.
Laszlo paces past the girls and sits down on a tall stool.
Rose |
I knew it. It's me. Walk suckers, he wants me.
Dorothy |
Rose, he just wanted to say something to you.
Laszlo |
I wanted to say that I would rather not decide at all.
Blanche |
Oh but Laszlo, you've got to. It's the only way. Otherwise
it'll just end up coming between the three of us. So now tell
us, which one of us is it going to be? Dorothy here, or Rose.
Or a woman whose breasts you once described as perfect champagne
glass sized orbs of dancing loveliness.
Laszlo |
Blanche, I did not say that.
Blanche |
Well you agreed when I said it.
Laszlo |
Ladies, let me explain. You know, I know I should have made
my choice long ago, but the truth is, you each inspired me so well.
I wish I could continue seeing you all, but I understand why that
is unacceptable. Therefor, my choice will have to be...
Blanche |
Laszlo, before you make your choice, just let me say what a
privilege it has been for me to come here and work with a man whom I
consider to be the greatest Hungarian sculpture of our time.
Dorothy |
Yes, and just let me say that if Blanche can name two other
Hungarian sculptures of anytime, I shall eat that statue. |
Dorothy points to the big orange sculpture of a vague human figure
propped in a fetal position.
Rose |
Well, what's it going to be Laszlo? Who do you choose?
Laszlo begins pacing again.
Laszlo |
I have enough sketches of each one of you to make my sculpture.
When I'm ready to being, I will make my choice then.
Dorothy |
Yeah, but when will we find out?
Laszlo |
Only when the work is unveiled at my show. Now, I apologize,
but this is how I must work.
Laszlo walks towards the door and opens it.
Now ladies, I must bid you good day.
The girls head toward the door. Dorothy and Rose exit. Before Blanche
leaves, she turns to Laszlo.
Blanche |
Oh Laszlo, just one more thing. Eh, you know that famous Picasso painting,
"Nude Woman Playing the Violin"?
Blanche |
Well, originally it was called "Blanche Playing the Violin".
Laszlo looks down uncomfortably.
Only it wasn't a violin. You think about that the next time you're
standing around with your chisel in your hand.
She exits; Laszlo shakes his head and closes the door. Fade to black...
